- For your first letter, type the following two
- small paragraphs.
- Start all typing at the left margin.

- √√√ NOW TYPE:

- This is my first letter using the WordPerfect program.
- This letter is to demonstrate "Word Wrap" and the use
- of the "Tab" key.
- Note: Press <Enter> key twice to drop down two spaces).

- I will give this letter a name and will save it on the Disk.
- This is the end of this document.
- Press <Enter> key twice.

- √√√ SAVING THE LETTER ON THE HARD DISK
- To save a document you must first give it a name.
- In this case you can use your name or any name you choose.
- To do this :
-
- Press the <F10> key.
-
- The bottom (left) of the screen will show:
-
- Document to be Saved:
-
- You type your name (Pat or Mary etc.) and Press the <Enter> key.
- The computer will show at the bottom left corner:
-
- C:\WP50> PAT
-
- This document has been saved.
- (Don't erase the screen).

- √√√ MOVING THE DOCUMENT DOWN THE SCREEN
- To move your letter down the page:
- Use the <Up Arrow> and the <Left Arrow>.

- Place the flashing cursor under the "T" of the word This on
- the first line in the first column. You can look at
- the Status Line and using the Up arrow you can place
- the cursor on line 1. You can watch these movements as
- they change in the Status Line until (Ln) reads "1" .

- To be sure you are in the right column use the Left arrow
- and place the cursor under the "T" of the word This--
- in position 10. Position 10 is the first column that
- you can use since the screen is formatted (set) for
- 10 spaces ( 1 inch) from the left margin.
- You can change the setting Pos 10 spaces from the left
- margin to another value.

- √√√ MOVING THE DOCUMENT DOWN THREE LINES
- To move the document (letter) down three lines:
- Press the <Enter> Key Three times.
- The whole document will move down three lines.

- √√√ HOW TO USE THE TAB KEY
- The <Tab> key is the first key (to the left) on the
- second row from top. It has an arrow pointing left and
- one to the right.
- Since you have the cursor under the "T" on the first line
- you can indent this line five spaces to the right,
- like this:

- Press <Tab> Key Once.
-
- The whole first line will shift five spaces to the right.
- This will move all the letters in that paragraph five
- spaces forward. The words all readjust to this change.

- Now using the <Down Arrow> and the <Left Arrow> move the cursor
- under the first letter of the second paragraph (I).
- Press the <Tab> key once. All the letters will move five
- spaces to the right.

- The WordPerfect format is set so that each time the <Tab> key
- is pressed the letters will move five spaces to the right.

- √√√ SAVE THE CHANGES
- To save the changes you make in a letter or document:
-
- Press <F10> Key.
- The bottom of the screen shows:
- Document to be Saved C:\wp50> PAT

- You press the <Enter> key.
- Computer asks Replace C:\WP50> PAT? (Y/N) N.
- You press Y for Yes.
- Computer says:
-
- Saving C:\WP50> PAT
- Then C:\WP50> Pat appears on the screen indicating your file
- has been saved.

- √√√ PRINTING YOUR LETTER
- The Print command is <Shift F7>.
- To print your letter press and hold down the <Shift> key,
- then press the <F7> key.
- Press 1 for Full Document.

- The Print Menu allows you to make any number of copies
- of your document.
- If you have a problem printing, press S to check
- "Select Printer". Make sure you have the right printer listed
- for WordPerfect.

- Press the <F7> N N to clear screen for more letter writing.
- If you want to exit WordPerfect, press <F7>, then N and Y.

- Press Esc key to return to Menu.
- Next, Select How To Retrieve Your File.
